“Let’s Not Rely On The Past”, Andy Robertson Tells Teammates
Liverpool defender Andy Robertson says they can’t “depend on the past” after Chelsea handed the reigning Premier League champions their fifth consecutive competitive home loss, leaving them fighting for a place in the top four for the first time in their history.
Mason Mount’s excellent individual goal three minutes before halftime earned the visitors a deserving victory and extended Thomas Tuchel’s unbeaten streak to ten games. It propelled them into the top four, while Liverpool fell to seventh position and is now in a tight race for a place in the Champions League.
The Reds, who won the Premier League by 18 points last season, had gone 68 league games without losing at home before losing to Burnley in January. “The previous season is over, it’s over,” Robertson told Sky Sports. “We haven’t come close to being what a Liverpool team should be. We’re falling farther behind, and it’s not good enough.
“We have a limited number of games left, and we need to bring pressure on the teams below us. People would believe we are in dire straits, and we must demonstrate that we are not. We are not doing so at the moment.
