Man Utd Trigger Extension In Pogba Contract

A week before the midfielder talked up a move to Real Madrid, Manchester United activated a clause to extend Paul Pogba ‘s deal. The French international’s agreement with Manchester United was expected to expire in June 2021 and Goal can confirm that a few weeks ago, the club exercised its option to extend it for another year, ensuring it is under contract until the summer of 2022.

Last summer, Pogba said that “it may be a good time to have a new challenge somewhere else” and repeatedly addressed the possibility of moving to Real Madrid. For a then-world record fee of £89 million, Pogba returned to United in 2016, but has struggled to find consistent form since his return while missing a substantial portion of last season with a few distinct injuries.

The winner of the World Cup has flirted with the prospect of transferring a number of times to Real Madrid, and United would have been willing to sell the midfielder to the La Liga giants in the summer transfer of 2019, but they never made an offer anywhere near the fee.
