It would have been a more interesting match but for Chris Wilder’s side who were on the back foot as early as the 12th minute when John Egan, who pulled down with Ollie Watkins as the Villa forward looked to latch onto a loose ball and that was adjudged to have denied a goal-scoring opportunity by referee Graham Scott , the centre referee. Aside the one player deficit, it was the visitors who had the better chances of the first half but failed to register a goal.
In the second half, with one-man down in and as expected, Villa started dominating possession, but the hosts struggled to find any way through the organised Sheffield United defence and eventually the it ended just 1-nill in favour of the host. Thanks to Ezri Konsa header which made the difference.
