Mali Beat Tunisia Amid Controversy As Ref Blows For Full-Time Early

The Africa Cup of Nations match between Mali and Tunisia ended in confusion as the referee originally signaled full-time on 85 minutes, then called the game off when the clock read 89 minutes and 47 seconds.

Tunisia’s coach Mondher Kebaier and his technical staff stormed the field after referee Janny Sikazwe’s final whistle ended their 1-0 loss in Group F.

After Mali manager Mohamed Magassouba’s post-match press conference began, tournament organizers ordered the game to be completed 20 minutes later.

Tunisia’s players, on the other hand, did not return to the field, and Mali was proclaimed the winner.

Kebaier called the referee’s actions “inexplicable”, adding: “He blew for full time and asked us to go to the dressing room, so the players were in their ice baths and then he asked us to come back out.

“In 30 years in this business, I have never seen anything like it.”
