According to a research, Bayern Munich was the only champion from Europe’s top eight divisions to make a profit in 2020-21, when the coronavirus pandemic devastated European football.
The “European Champions Report” by KPMG looked into the finances of England, Spain, Germany, Italy, France, the Netherlands, Turkey, and Portugal’s champions.
Manchester City, the Premier League champions, were the only team to enjoy a gain in revenue from the previous season.
City earned 644 million euros (£537.3 million), the most of the eight league winners, which included Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, Ajax, Sporting Lisbon, Lille, Inter Milan, and Besiktas.
City’s income, helped by prize money from reaching the Champions League final and increased broadcasting revenue, was 96m euros higher than 19-20 and also more than 18-19, the last pre-Covid season.
