Following Sunday’s Euros final defeat, the Football Association will offer Bukayo Saka, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford the option of pursuing criminal action against the internet accounts that targeted them with horrific racial abuse.
In the sad penalty shootout loss to Italy at Wembley on Sunday, all three England players failed to score, prompting vile social media insults.
The regulatory body of English football will communicate with Saka, Sancho, and Rashford individually to discuss the next steps. Players will be asked how they want to continue, with the option of criminal charges being brought against the users if the accounts are traceable.
The FA will completely support any decision to prosecute if the players chose to do so, notwithstanding the fact that footballers have previously shown a reluctance to do so.
