England should be prevented from hosting another major football tournament, according to Anton Ferdinand, until racist abuse and social disorder issues are eradicated from the game.
Hundreds of ticketless fans attempted to break into Wembley Stadium during England’s Euro 2020 final against Italy on Sunday, while Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Bukayo Saka received racial abuse on social media.
Before and after the penalty shoot-out loss, ugly incidents in London’s Leicester Square and at Wembley will have harmed the country’s chances of hosting the 2030 World Cup. And Ferdinand, a former West Ham and QPR defender, has admitted that the country’s bid should be thwarted unless the country’s off-field issues are addressed.
‘Yes, there should be consequences, there definitely should be consequences,’ Ferdinand replied when asked if England should be denied host status until the larger concerns are resolved.
