The passionate calls for football by Raheem Sterling to resolve the lack of black representation in positions of power have helped inspire the introduction of the new FA Football Leadership Diversity Code, with over 40 clubs committing.
The teams have signed up to the voluntary code, including 19 of the 20 Premier League sides-Southampton the only one not to participate-and a number from the EFL, WSL and Women’s Championships, as well as England, dedicated to tackling inequalities through senior management positions, wider team operations and coaching roles.
“Reflecting on the new FA Code, Paul Elliott, chairman of the Inclusion Advisory Board of the FA, told Sky Sports News: “It’s football at the right moment. I was inspired by Raheem Sterling when he said, ‘I don’t see people that look like me when I look up.’ In my mindset, it was a proper consideration.
